India Just Got a $2.8 Billion Reason to Believe Its AI Infrastructure Bet Is Working

UK-headquartered Gorilla Technology Group has expanded its AI infrastructure partnership with Yotta Data Services through a project valued at approximately $2.8 billion — deploying over 20,000 additional NVIDIA B300 GPU cards across India by September 2026, in what will become one of the largest NVIDIA DGX Cloud clusters in the Asia-Pacific region.

What was announced
Gorilla Technology Group, a UK-headquartered AI and security technology company, has expanded its collaboration with Yotta Data Services through a project valued at approximately $2.8 billion, according to a company statement reported by The Economic Times on April 29, 2026. Under the agreement, an additional 20,736 NVIDIA B300 GPU cards will be deployed across India, with deployment targeted for completion by September 30, 2026. The expansion builds on an earlier framework between the two firms involving approximately 640 high-performance servers equipped with more than 5,000 GPUs for AI workloads. NVIDIA is expected to account for nearly half of the offtake under the latest tranche, through a four-year commitment tied to establishing one of the Asia-Pacific region's largest NVIDIA DGX Cloud clusters in India.
Why this matters beyond the headline number
Yotta currently operates hyperscale data centre parks in Panvel, near Navi Mumbai, and Greater Noida in the Delhi NCR region. Sunil Gupta, co-founder, managing director and CEO of Yotta Data Services, said the collaboration is intended to accelerate the company's AI infrastructure development to meet growing hyperscale, sovereign, and enterprise demand within India. The project is significant less for its dollar value than for what it signals about the maturity of India's compute infrastructure market: GPU deployment at this scale, anchored by a multi-year NVIDIA offtake commitment, is the kind of capital structure usually associated with US or Gulf hyperscale data centre markets, not Indian ones.
The sovereign AI compute angle
India's compute capacity has historically been a structural bottleneck constraining the country's AI ambitions — most Indian AI startups and government Sovereign LLM projects have relied on rented compute from international cloud providers, often at premium pricing and with limited control over data residency. A domestically operated cluster of this scale, with sovereign and enterprise customers as a stated focus, directly addresses that bottleneck. It is also a useful real-world stress test of demand: $2.8 billion in private capital committed to Indian AI infrastructure is a stronger signal of confidence than any policy announcement, because it represents capital that has to generate a commercial return regardless of government incentive structures.
What to watch next
The September 2026 deployment deadline is an executional benchmark worth tracking — GPU supply chains, data centre power availability, and cooling infrastructure have each been documented bottlenecks in large-scale AI infrastructure builds globally. If Yotta and Gorilla hit this timeline, it would be one of the fastest large-scale AI compute deployments completed in India to date, and a meaningful data point for the dozen or so other hyperscale data centre projects currently being planned across Maharashtra, Telangana, and Gujarat.
